Research

My research interests are primarily focused on the eco-epidemiology and disease ecology of zoonoses through a One Health approach; specifically, the climate and environment factors of infectious diseases that influence the health of both wildlife and human populations, and in identifying conservation-based strategies to mitigate disease risk. I aim to understand the mechanisms of disease spread and transmission through natural landscapes using statistical analyses and programmatic modeling. My previous work has explored the effects of spatiotemporal environmental, climatic, and socioeconomic variables on vector-borne disease incidence at both local and global scales; the role of protected areas in tropical forests in promoting animal and human health; and the public health risks posed by the international wildlife trade through the lens of vector-borne disease introduction.
